being healthy isn’t expensive
And being judgmental is free. Your point?
….WHAT GROCERY STORE ARE YOU SHOPPING AT.
That McDonalds just fed like, three extra people and making fancy healthy meals takes time that not everyone has. Fuck this judgmental, classist shit man.
Okay, I’m just saying that meat is priced by the portion (like the two slices of bacon costing $1.85) which isn’t how you BUY meat (or potatoes for the most part) so the cost of that meal (which again, feeds one or two people to the the mcdonald’s four or five) isn’t really accurate. Meat is expensive-at my grocery store bacon would’ve been at least $9. That’s impressive I want to shop there. Especially once you accounted for the fact that you’d need to be feeding as many as four-five people with that. Also WHERE do you get a whole chicken for six bucks? One that can feed 4-5 people? Seriously I am impressed.
ALSO
the problem isn’t just (or even mostly) that people are buying mcdonalds instead of fruits and veggies, it’s that to buy in bulk on a budget is too buy lower quality food that is also more unhealthy for you.
Uggh so many things wrong with this line of thinking. Food isn’t just as simple as “spend more” there’s also whether you have access to better food, can AFFORD to budget better, have the time to devote to relearning how to eat and cook (or just cooking in general), and uggh.
This is a systematic problem not just someone being too lazy to cook or something.
Meat is priced by the portion in grocery, yes, but the image is comparing the total price for making 4 servings of food. People buy shit on bulk, it’s cheaper and it’s not like we don’t have fridge to store our foods in. And $9 bacon? Most bacons are priced around $4-$8, unless you buy the thick ones. Whole chicken for 6 bucks? The nearest store has a full cooked grilled whole chicken for $8, and I could assure you that a whole chicken is enough for 4 people. You could get at least 2 chicken breasts and 2 chicken legs, you really don’t think it’s enough for 4 people?
And please show me where lower quality food means that it’s unhealthy for you?especially when you compare it to McDonald products (which i’m sure you know how their foods are processed, you know, redundant salt, excess sodium, high calories). And I can assure you that your access to better food is just as much as your access to nearest McDonald. Dunno why you even talk about budget, when spending money at McDonald will be more expensive compared to actually budgeting the food yourself.
It doesn’t take forever to learn how to cook. You’re not expected to be a masterchef. I personally learned how to cook through Youtube, and it didn’t take me more than 15 minutes to actually learn a recipe (depends on the recipe, though).
First, let me say that if you’ve got the ability to boil a pot of water, you’ve got the ability to cook any of the healthy meals pictured here. The food you cook, which is healthy, will definitely last you longer than any processed crap from McDonald’s, since you can cook and freeze individual dishes that will last you the entire week. This will also save you time, as cooking food in bulk as opposed to preparing each individual meal saves time (you only have to make one set of dishes dirty, only have to do dishes once, etc), since you can put your food in the microwave for however many minutes, and then you can spend that time your food is “cooking” doing something else. Like cleaning.
Second, if you’ve got time to be on tumblr, you’ve got time to make any of the healthy meals pictured here.
Third, I assume this person isn’t going to eat only one night per week, right? This would lead me to believe that they are saying that they are going to buy McDonald’s (or similar quality) food more than one time per week rather than buy healthy food in bulk, which would further lead me to believe that they’d buy it every day of the week than purchase healthy foods in bulk, based on what they said and the manner in which they said it.
So, yeah, you have to buy food in bulk, and yes, that is going to cost more than the price of those meals. HOWEVER. You also now have spinach/lettuce/salad fixings for a WHOLE WEEK. You’ve got a bag of lentils that lasted my 4-person family a WEEK AND A HALF. And so on. The fact is, when you buy healthy food in bulk (which you are definitely able to do even if you have only enough money to buy McDonald’s for ONE NIGHT out of the week, which I know from personal experience), you get more for your money. To deny that is just asinine.
However, it’s not my life, and I can’t choose to be healthy for you. But, at least be honest. There’s no need to make excuses if you’d prefer to eat at McDonald’s than eat healthy food.
…a grocery store in 1995, clearly. Also, curious how nothing from McDonald’s is individually priced.
